Tension is rising in the Balkans: Another institution stopped its activities – Last Minute World News

Kosovo Police Northern Region Deputy Director Veton Elshani stated in his statement to the press that they suspected that the building in question was working as the office of the Tax Office within the Serbian Ministry of Finance, and that they then carried out a search in the building.

Elshani emphasized that they collected evidence confirming their suspicions during the search of the building, and said that everyone was removed from the building and the office was closed.

Serbian List, which is the largest Serbian party in Kosovo, reacted to the closure of the said office with a written statement and held Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti responsible for what happened.

It was stated in the statement that 80 people work in the institution, and that none of the employees was assured that they would not be left without income.

Kosovo police have recently closed the offices of many Serbian institutions, especially those operating in the north of the country.

Meanwhile, the recent confrontation between Kosovo and Serbia on different issues creates concern that the relations between the two countries will become tense again.

The fact that Serbia considers Kosovo, which declared its unilateral independence in 2008, as its own territory is stated as the biggest reason why the two countries frequently clash.

Within the scope of the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue Process, which was initiated in 2011 under the mediation of the European Union (EU), a common path is sought for the normalization of relations and ultimately for the two countries to recognize each other.
