Tensions in the EU. Italy and Hungary accuse the European Commission of bureaucracy and eco-terrorism

“We have a duty to defend Italian entrepreneurs and farmers, whose work is endangered by eco-terrorists in Brussels,” Salvini told thousands of his party supporters gathered in Pontida, in the heart of Italy, for the annual holiday of the League party.

A critic of the European Commission’s green policies, Salvini accused Brussels of “wanting to close farms and factories to do a service, perhaps to the Turks, the Chinese or the multinationals”.

“We are here to defend the work and efforts of Europeans and Italians,” said Salvini.

Hungary refuses to accept migrants

At the same time, the Hungarian Prime Minister, Viktor Orban, in conflict with the European Parliament and the European Commission, criticized Brussels and reiterated his refusal to receive migrants, once again threatening to put them on buses and take them to Belgium.

“We will never give up our freedom and we will never give up our countries to foreigners. We will not give up our country to the bureaucrats from Brussels, nor to financial powers, nor to migrants,” he declared.

The head of the Hungarian government also criticized the European Commission’s recent decision to reduce future EU payments to Hungary to recover a 200 million euro fine for non-compliance with asylum treaties, which Budapest refuses to pay.

“Together, the European left and the bureaucrats from Brussels are punishing Hungary because we don’t allow illegal migrants to enter, because we defend Europe. It’s a shame,” said Orban. “However, I want to tell you one thing, if they continue to punish us, we will transport the migrants from Budapest to Brussels, we will leave them in front of the Brussels offices, if they want migrants, they will keep them” , the Hungarian nationalist leader also declared.

The League and Orban’s Fidesz party, as well as France’s National Assembly (RN), are part of the same far-right group in the European Parliament: Patriots for Europe.
