The Trump administration’s group wants to make it easier to use self-driving cars in the United States. They plan to create new rules for fully self-driving vehicles, according to sources familiar with the matter, Bloomberg News reports.

This is something that would directly benefit Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who has become an important person in Trump’s inner circle.

Musk has invested in Tesla becoming a leader in self-driving technology and artificial intelligence. Musk announced in October that Tesla plans to mass-produce the self-driving robot axis, which he intends to launch in 2026.

Today’s US regulations pose major obstacles to Musk’s plans for Cybercabs, including a cap on how many such vehicles can be put into service.

The Trump team is now looking for leaders to come up with new rules, while Congress is debating a law that would make it easier to deploy self-driving cars across the country.

Trump has appointed Musk and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy to lead a new initiative to “tear down red tape” in government and reduce spending and regulations deemed overly burdensome.

Previous attempts to create federal laws to regulate self-driving cars have failed, Bloomberg writes in a comment.
