Tesla has made its APIs available for third-party applications. The price tag reaches $60 million per year

Tesla published the cost of accessing its APIs for third-party applications, which caused sharp criticism among developers.

A calculator has appeared on the company’s website that allows you to calculate how much you will have to pay for using the API. For example, 1000 requests to run a command on Tesla will cost $1.

Tyler Corsar, founder of the Teslascope app (an analytics service for Tesla cars), said that the cost of the API for him would be 7.5 times the monthly revenue from the application.

The developer of the Tessie application, which provides detailed car statistics and automates actions, said that using the API would cost him $60 million a year. The Tessie app is used by 400 thousand people.

But he’s not going to pay for the API. The application will continue to work and receive data directly from the car.

However, this approach is not suitable for all developers. Some third-party applications for Tesla will cease to exist because developers simply cannot pay for the API. (Electrek)
