Tesla is issuing a massive recall of nearly 2 million electric cars in China due to a software issue.
Recalls are very common in the automotive industry, and Tesla is no exception.
A new recall at Tesla
In fact, the American manufacturer often has to organize such campaigns, in order to correct certain problems, the severity of which varies. But in most cases, the recalls are done remotely, and a simple update is then necessary, without the owners having to go to the garage. And just like that, Elon Musk’s firm has just announced the remote recall of approximately 1.7 million vehicles in China, its second largest market, according to the State Administration for Market Regulation. The latter, once again carried out through an over-the-air software update, concerns both imported and locally manufactured vehicles. The models affected by this recall are the imported Model S and Model Y, as well as the Model 3 and Model Y produced in China. The reason for this recall is a software problem that prevents the vehicle’s system from detecting whether the front trunk lid is unlocked.
A free update
Such a defect could potentially cause significant security risksincluding increasing the risk of accidents if the trunk were to open unexpectedly while the vehicle is in motion. Like all over-the-air updates, Tesla owners in China do not need to take their vehicles to a service center to fix the problem. This type of recall, made possible by Tesla’s advanced software capabilities, can quickly resolve issues that would have previously required physical repairs and dealership visits. Affected drivers will still receive a notification from the manufacturer to let them know. Then, as soon as the update is available, they can install it themselves to ensure their vehicles meet the required safety standards. And of course, this entire process is completely free for Tesla owners, who will not have to pay anything.
The question is when all the cars will be repaired now!
