Tesla saves everyone from European fines: it will be manager of a maxi fleet with many manufacturers

We have spoken about the “green credit” mechanism in the automotive sector on several occasions, often mentioning it Tesla as a partner of some other manufacturer. The mechanism is simple: Tesla only produces electric cars, and for this reason it is completely in credit for polluting emissions, credit that it can sell to others, who instead with their own fleet would risk being sanctioned by Europe.

This mechanism is apparently about to reach a new and higher level, with manufacturers ready to face the new, more stringent regulations of 2025 head-on. The European Commission has received a letter of intent that anticipates the creation of a new group with the mechanism explained above, called pooling, but this time larger than usual.

In fact, Tesla will play the role of “Pool Manager”in a maxi pool which will include Toyota Motor Europe, Toyota Gazoo Racing Europe GmbH. Ford Werke GmbH, Ford Motor Company, Mazda Motor Europe GmbH and Subaru Europe, Stellantis Auto Sas, Automobiles Peugeot SA, Automobiles Citroen SAS, Stellantis Europe Spa, FCA Us Llc (represented by Stellantis Europe), Alfa Romeo Spa, Opel Automobile GmbH and Leapmotor Automobile Co., Ltd. (represented by GreenKar Innovation Srl).

You will be able to join the mega group by February 5th, ed members will sign a confidentiality agreement. Polluting emissions data will therefore be acquired by the Pool Manager, that is, by Elon Musk and his men in the branch in the Netherlandsto evaluate the position according to the regulations. All this until the end of 2025, in exchange for the payment of a feewhich officially serves to cover the costs of managing the pool, but which in truth seems like the classic payment of credits as in the past.

What is singular on this occasion is the union of intent between practically all the generalist brands, and only the German brands are missing, unless they are already considering joining the party. For many of the brands on the list the average fleet emissions were already decent, and several would have most likely avoided fines even on their own, but with Tesla’s help it is almost certain that no fines will be imposed on anyone.
