Sitting inside on a cold winter day, the interior of the Peugeot 3008 is homely and inviting. Starting from the doors, the basic fabric covering runs around the dashboard and even reached the armrest. I’m not saying that in a few years it won’t need a complete cleaning because of polished, greasy spots, but now it’s still a rare demanding solution. Just as the i-cockpit driving interface is rare and typical Peugeot.
Peugeot has been working on this solution for a decade, the essence of which is the small steering wheel, which is placed lower than the instruments, and the controls that surround the driver. Over the years, the basic concept has always changed, and in terms of appearance, the 3008 is still the most uniform. The previous ones were a bit chaotic, the separated screens and divided counters brought a kind of “airplane” atmosphere, but with this model, the frills have disappeared.
It was as if they had gone through the interior with a ruler: the screens moved to a common 21-inch curved panel. Two 10-inch digital displays are placed here in the Allure version, while the 21-inch screen consists of a single piece in the GT models.
Underneath, the ventilation grilles and another small screen replace the classic, often used row of buttons. This is the virtual panel called i-Toggle, on which a total of ten functions can be configured. It can be set in detail on the main screen, and this requires some affinity for digital devices.
The system is completely oriented towards the driver, so it is more difficult for the passenger on the right to access functions, such as adjusting the seat heating. Its operation is exemplary, there are eye-pleasing animations, but they were not exaggerated, the contrast is exemplary, everything is completely visible even in bright sunlight, with high resolution, the display is rich in detail.
You have to get used to the fact that there is a large screen in front of you, so there are functions that can be controlled by touch almost behind the steering wheel.
Its fast operation evokes the world of tablets, and it should be handled with such spirit. Since customization is high, the driver has to figure out which page to display what, and the plethora of settings is a dense forest, especially if we don’t like packing icons and configuring the screen and want a finished, clean factory version.
As it manages Android Auto and Apple CarPlay wirelessly, as expected in 2024, the connection is established quickly and is stable, at least when tested with an average mobile phone running a fresh system.
There aren’t many physical buttons, it’s more about the design, it’s difficult to interpret the small, triangular-shaped stop sign in any other way, we won’t thank you for letting someone into the queue, it’s enough to find it around the cup holders.
As for storage, there are plenty of them in the designed interior, the mobile phone comes with its own shelf with wireless charging, there is a large openable storage on the passenger side, the door pockets, elbow and glove box are of average size. There are two USB-C ports on the front, one for charging and data transfer, the other for charging only. The two rear passengers can also get one as an extra, and there are three 12-volt sockets in the car.
Although it looks narrow due to the high center console and the thick door, the space available is fine and the first row is comfortable: there is plenty of headroom, the seats with AGR certification at the base price are comfortable even for long periods of time, and they even have a pneumatic massage function and are stable we can also order supportive, inflatable side supports.
Despite the coupe’s arched roof, the second row also has a good sense of space, two recesses have been created in the headliner for the heads, but the legroom is also adequate, and the seats can be reclined in a 40:20:40 ratio.
In this way, we get an almost flat space, which is useful when transporting long objects. All in all, the 3008 has a space of 1,480 liters. Behind the manually operated fifth door, we find a space of 520 liters by default, this capacity is understood in the lower position of the double floor.
