Ralf Schumacher he made it known that he and his partner Etienne are “very happy” and grateful for the many congratulatory messages they received after the former F1 driver went public with their relationship.
The reactions to his coming out have been overwhelmingly positive following Schumacher’s Instagram post on Sunday evening, when he shared an image of himself and Etienne, embracing as they gaze out into the sunset.
Schumacher wrote in the caption of the image: “The most beautiful thing in life is when you have the right partner by your side with whom you can share everything”.
On Monday he then published a new photo of the two of them together accompanied by these words: “Many thanks for the many good wishes and comments. We are very happy and thank you all.”.
The couple’s friend Carmen Geiss, a German businesswoman and star of several reality TV shows, confirmed that Schumacher had come out as gay.
Schumacher’s son, Davidalso a pilot, then commented with affectionate words on his father’s post.
David wrote: “I am so happy that you have finally found someone you feel truly comfortable and safe with, no matter if it is a man or a woman, I’m 100% with you dad and wish you all the best and congratulations”.
Other comments included some red heart emojis sent from the account of the Mercedes F1 team, with which Ralf’s brother Michael, a seven-time world champion, ended his career.
The German tabloid BILD reported on Monday that Etienne is also Ralf Schumacher’s manager and that they have been in love for two years.
The newspaper, quoting Geiss, explained: “They met in Monaco. Ralf lives in Salzburg with his son, Etienne lives in Nice. But they are together very often.”.
“The two are incredibly happy, always. There has never been an argument”he added.
