“That will be big trouble”

Former presidential adviser Iulian Fota, opined at Digi24.ro interviewsreferring to Donald Trump’s victory, that the main winner in the region is Victor Orban.

Asked if the Trump administration would encourage Orban’s wishes, Fota said: “We have to see what the wishes are, because we don’t really know them. And what we suspect we don’t like and it might be confirmed. It remains to be seen. So we still don’t know what Victor Orban’s appetites are. It is clear that he will ask for something, because we have to say this thing, that it is the merit of Victor Orban. He had courage, he was inspired, he sensed where things were going, he was consistent, loyal. So it is no coincidence that the American conservative movement loves Victor Orban. So Victor Orban has an opportunity, now he has a good corridor. It remains to be seen what he will ask for. How will the friendship continue.”

Orban is also Putin’s friend, will the leader from Budapest be the hand that connects the two states?, asked the reporter.

Iulian Fota answered: What will this mean? That meant that in Central Europe, again, after many, many years, a revisionist agenda is emerging, and that will be big trouble. I don’t shy away from that word, even if it’s not very academic. If such a thing will happen precisely because Russia is also revisionist, and there are still some revisionist states in this area of Europe. And if, indeed, this revisionist agenda begins to be accepted, tolerated, maybe even supported by the White House, it will be a very big win.
