US President-elect Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin may hold a telephone conversation “in the next few days or weeks”, Florida representative Mike Waltz, Trump’s future national security adviser, revealed to ABC News. in an interview.
According to Waltz, the main goal of starting negotiations would be to end the Russian-Ukrainian war as soon as possible.
The importance of the telephone conversation lies in the fact that it can start official peace negotiations and even lead to a quick end to the war, the American Newsweek magazine points out.
Waltz emphasized that it is preparations are already underwaybut the exact framework has not yet been determined, nor has it been decided whether Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi will be included in the negotiations. Trump’s would-be adviser says the war is a “World War I-style meat grinder” that will consume people and resources, threatening World War III consequences.
According to the Trump administration’s strategy, contact and dialogue with Russia must first be established, as this is necessary to start negotiations leading to the end of the war. According to Trump, no deal can be made with Russia without dialogue. This idea is very similar to what Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has been saying for a long time, according to which communication is first necessary for a ceasefire and peace.
Trump previously mentioned that he plans to meet with Putin after his inauguration on January 20, Dmitry Peshkov according to the Russian presidential spokesman, no official request has been received in this regard so far, the Reuters news agency wrote. The Russian president would welcome the meeting, Peskov added.
