The world premiere of Tatra’s newest model, the Force e-Drive Hybrid 8×8, was held at the Prague e-Salon event. The novelty has a rather telling name and is basically based on the third-generation version of the Force model family, which is produced with its own cab, chassis and engine.
The novelty has a four-door, six-passenger cabin. According to the company’s press release, it fully meets today’s requirements. The cabin was equipped with, among other things, a digital dashboard, air conditioning and electric windows. However, the vehicle’s drivetrain is even more interesting. It was no accident that the truck rolled off the production line in light green.
This vehicle was equipped with Tatra’s self-developed, eight-cylinder, electronically controlled, 300 kW and 2100 Nm torque diesel engine. This power source is connected to a Danfoss EM-PMI375-T1100 permanent magnet synchronous electric motor. Its constant performance is the same as that of the diesel, but its torque reaches 2400 Nm. The hybrid drive system includes the Allison 4900 type automatic transmission, as well as Tatra’s continuously variable transmission, which is connected to the drive system via a drive shaft built into the vehicle’s central load-bearing tube.
„The combination of the use of the diesel engine and the electric motor enables several operating modes. In addition, it naturally provides a significant reduction in harmful substances, as various off-road transport tasks can be carried out with much lower carbon dioxide emissions.“- pointed out Radomír Smolka, Tatra Trucks board member. He added: the truck was also equipped with an 89 kWh capacity lithium-ion (lithium-titanate cathode) battery, which enables the vehicle’s drive system to store the energy produced during recuperation.
The load capacity of the new Tatra reaches 22 tons, and when fully loaded, it can weigh up to 38 tons. The presented construction is perfectly suitable for the transport of wood, waste or debris.
