That’s why your Instagram posts appear on Google

Posts and even reels from Instagram now appear in Google’s Perspectives to show searchers relevant content. This benefits creators and Google is responding to a growing search trend.

Instagram accounts for 53 percent of daily use in the search context in Germany. This is the result of a current analysis of the State of Search 2024 by Claneo and Appinio. In general, search is currently changing massively. Many people are searching using AI tools such as ChatGPT or AI answering machines such as Perplexity. There are also options such as YouTube and Amazon for video content and products. But searching via social media and entertainment platforms in particular has become increasingly important in recent years. And people also often look for answers in forums and on platforms such as Reddit, which combine a lot of knowledge.

Google is also aware of this. Instagram content now even appears in the Perspectives section of the search. Perhaps your posts and reels will soon be found directly via Google.

That’s why Google is focusing on Instagram and Co. in Perspectives

The search engine introduced the Perspectives section in 2023. With this, Google is increasingly focusing on displaying content published by individuals and personal brands. This was also shown by the fact that shortly after the launch, content from YouTube, Reddit, TikTok and Co. was integrated via Perspectives. In June 2023, the filter for the feature was also made available on mobile. This means that searchers can see videos, images and texts that people have shared in discussion forums, on question-and-answer pages and on social media platforms in the search. In the future, users will be able to find content from forums via the forum filter, which uses the Perspectives filter.Filter by name. The forum filter then enables dedicated searches for specific content from the forums. The relevance of UGC from forums such as Reddit is also underlined by the 60 million US dollar deal with Reddit, which allows Google to use public user content for AI training.

Social media content, such as TikToks and Shorts or carousel posts, will appear in carousels and in the traditional listings on the search results pages. And Reels and Instagram posts are now also appearing in the Perspectives. reports SEO expert Barry Schwartz citing various posts by SEO experts like Gagan Ghotra.

Instagram posts can therefore appear in searches alongside content from publishers or content from other platforms that match the search query. Instagram content can now receive increased reach via Perspectives Carousels – which should only please creators. In turn, searchers can find creators and accounts on Instagram who may provide exactly the content that helps them. This could quickly result in a follow from a search.

However, Google is also making numerous other adjustments to the results in the search context. While the AI overviews are integrated into the standard search, but often still lead to criticism due to questionable results, the search engine is experimenting with a completely new form of featured snippet.
