The 28th year of Library Week is starting, it will offer tours and discussions

Prague – Today begins Library Week, the motto of this year’s 28th edition is “Life with a book”. Over 400 libraries in the Czech Republic will offer talks, workshops or tours, the aim of which is to support books and reading. The event will last until October 13. Part of it will be the awarding of the state award Library of 2024 to the best libraries and projects, which will be presented on October 10 by the Minister of Culture Martin Baxa (ODS) in the Klementina Mirror Chapel. Library Week has been announced since 1996 by the Union of Librarians and Information Workers.

This year, during the event, libraries will promote reading and books in new forms. “Reading is a planned and targeted development of reading with the help of schools, libraries and other educational institutions, it is often accompanied by institutionally organized campaigns and support actions. Reading differs from reading in that it is always associated with a deliberate voluntary activity, with a hobby,” said the organizers .

Registered readers can participate in scheduled programs. For example, they can visit the Municipal Library in Prague 1 on Mariánské náměstí, where they can participate in an event about choosing books in the e-library or an event for seniors about safe shopping on the Internet. In the library at the Goethe-Institut, people can look forward to a guided tour of the building. The tour was also prepared by the Medical Museum of the National Medical Library in Prague 2.

Part of Library Week is the announcement of the Library of the Year award. The purpose of the award is to recognize long-term contributions to the development of librarianship in municipalities or an extraordinary contribution to the development of library and information services. This year, representatives of the Ministry of Culture will present it in Prague’s Klementin on October 10.
