Becoming a sniper is not easy. It is a school with high demands, painstaking training and a high degree of difficulty. That is why only 4 new snipers graduated from the Basic Training School.

They are nicknamed “silent punishers”. They learn how to become one with the environment, to… disappear from the face of the earth and deal killing blows to enemy forces. They are the snipers of the special forces.
From September 9 to October 25, the Special Missions Sniper Basic Training School (SVEESEA) was held at the headquarters of the Unorthodox War Training Center (KEAP) at the “ANTGOU GEORGIOU KATSANI” Camp in Rentina Thessaloniki, with the participation of 12 officers, including 4 from Armenia, 2 from Jordan and 2 from Serbia.
The fact that only 4 managed to graduate from the Hellenic Armed Forces also demonstrates the great degree of difficulty.
During the training, personnel were trained in the subjects of individual tactics, cover, concealment and camouflage.
In addition, he was taught target approach and range estimation procedures. The training included practical training by firing at fixed and moving targets and concluded with the evaluation of the trainees.
The education
The Special Mission Sniper Basic Training School (SMIS) is held with the aim of training Sniper Special Missions (SMIS) in specialized shots, in order to be able to attack selected targets, at long distances and under conditions that make success impossible for anyone another shooter.
During the 7 weeks of training personnel are trained in the subjects of individual tactics, cover, concealment and camouflage. It is also taught how to take advantage of weather conditions to attack the target.
Among other things, the training includes practice by firing at fixed and moving targets, day and night, and concludes with the evaluation of trainees.
The training is carried out at the Unorthodox War Training Center (KEAP) located in Rentina, Prefecture of Thessaloniki.
It is the “nursery” of the legendary greencaps, a place where the legend of the Greek lokatz and the raiding spirit was founded.
Redina, 71 km east of Thessaloniki, is, at first glance, a peaceful and ordinary classical Greek village in the countryside, which does not offer special thrills. It is best known to archeology enthusiasts for the ancient city of Arethusa. Since 1963, Redina received a new dimension with the establishment of K.E.A.P. (Unorthodox War Training Center). Its location is ideal for carrying out its mission, as it is surrounded by terrain that includes mountains, rivers, lakes and the sea, i.e. natural spaces necessary for the practical application of all the objects of education.
In its 45 years of operation, KEAP has offered a huge educational project, which continues today. It is the common ground of all special forces officers and non-commissioned officers, a “holy” place for them, a place where they sweated and ached for the commando idea. It is the symbol and the beacon that guides their path on the path of honor and duty.
