A true benchmark on the market that still has a big drawback: its price, too high for some. We were therefore impatiently waiting for Amazon Prime Day to hope to see a significant price drop. A durable and efficient camera
Easily recognizable with its white plastic shell and its rounded design, the Arlo Pro 5 connected surveillance camera looks very much like the brand’s previous references. Fortunately, it retains the same solidity characteristic of other models and can obviously be placed outdoors thanks to its IP68 certification: it is therefore weatherproof and can even operate over a temperature range from -20 ° C to 45 ° C. To install it, nothing could be simpler: you can place it on a piece of furniture or use the wall mounting system supplied with it and which is then screwed onto it, thus offering a rotation range of 360 ° and a maximum tilt of 90 °.
The camera also comes with a very comprehensive Arlo Security application, which lists all the Arlo Pro alerts and also allows you to program routines, refine the brightness number or even the viewing angle. In use, the Arlo Pro 5 camera proves to be particularly effective with its 2K video quality which promises very detailed images. The 160° viewing angle is rather impressive and allows you to monitor a very large area, but you can also reduce it if necessary. It should also be noted that even at 9 meters, it is possible to guess the faces of people passing through the camera’s field of view.
Lots of features, but…
The Arlo Pro 5 also has night vision, and in color, please. It is simply excellent, especially since it can be supported by the camera’s torch. Other features of this model obviously include motion detection and tracking, a built-in smart siren, and a powerful spotlight to illuminate faces up to 7 meters away. On the other hand, to take full advantage of the Arlo Pro 5, it is almost essential to subscribe to Arlo Secure, a free trial of which is offered with the purchase of the pack.
Indeed, without the subscription, the camera only offers basic motion alerts and the ability to view the camera feed live. The Arlo Pro 5 also only sends notifications for every movement detected, including a movement of leaves, which can be annoying in the long run, whereas with Arlo Secure, the notifications are smarter and more relevant and you can select the alerts that concern you the most. The camera can then alert you only if a person passes in front of its detection field, or if a delivery person drops off a package in front of your house, for example. With the subscription, the Arlo Pro 5 is able to precisely detect people, vehicles and even animals. Finally, Arlo Secure also allows you to record videos in a cloud.
