Despite her heavy bereavement, her family made the brave decision to give life to their child’s death by proceeding with organ donation.

Her family’s statement:

“It is with deep sadness that we announce that our Garifallia has lost the difficult and brave battle she had been fighting since the early hours of last Monday as we were informed that her brain death has occurred.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the medical and nursing staff of KAT and St. Andrew’s Hospital who made every effort in this unequal battle fought by our daughter and sister.

In our most difficult and cruel moment, we decided to honor the memory of our Garifalitsa by offering the possibility of life to other fellow human beings through the donation of her organs.

We hope her love and light will continue to live on through them.”

The attack

The 41-year-old Garifallia was attacked on Sunday, October 3, on Iroon Polytechniou Street at the height of Terpsithea in Patras.

The 49-year-old punched and pushed her, causing the woman to fall to the ground and hit her head on a curb.

She was urgently transported by ambulance to the hospital, where due to the seriousness of her condition she was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). From there he was transferred to the KAT where he was fighting to keep himself in the cage.

The man was arrested after he was identified and traced from video footage found by police.

Initially, the 49-year-old called the EMS on his own, claiming that he found his ex-partner, fallen, however, after an investigation, the police found that he was not telling the truth.

The 49-year-old has been remanded in custody on the charge of causing grievous bodily harm, following a unanimous decision by the investigator and the prosecutor.

However, after the tragic development with the unfortunate woman, the indictment against him is expected to change.
