The Romanian Auto Registry (RAR) has announced that it is experiencing a major IT system failure. Due to this problem, the activity of ITP stations throughout the country is suspended for an indefinite period.
Since Thursday, the activity of the Romanian Auto Registry has been disrupted due to an IT problem. RAR announced that it was an unforeseen incident that occurred in the central server room.
Due to this problem, the activity of the institution and scheduled services with clients is affected at the national level.
The activity of ITP stations throughout the country is suspended
The breakdown also affected the computer application intended for the national level registration of ITP by the authorized technical inspection stations. Thus, data exchange with the General Directorate of Driving Permits and Registrations cannot be carried out.
„At this moment, the activity of the ITP stations is completely suspended. The incident was reported on 21.11.2024, at around 14:00, when the fire prevention and extinguishing systems were triggered and caused an interruption of vital equipment supporting RAR’s IT infrastructure. We specify that the situation was NOT generated by a cyber attack, that there was NO fire in the server room, and that no one was harmed by the activation of fire extinguishing systems that use special powders to inhibit combustion“, it is stated in a statement sent by RAR.
The management of the Romanian Auto Registry has announced that it has also called on external specialists, IT experts, for technical support.
What happens with the appointments at RAR
Until the situation is remedied, customers can come to the RAR offices according to the appointments they made.
Instead, the documents will be issued to them only after they can be processed in the IT system.
„RAR employees will notify those who have to pick up documents when they can be released, in the chronological order of the appointments they had for the performance of benefits or, as the case may be, in other special situations. At the same time, RAR made the decision that the payment for the services performed will be made only when the documents will be issued in physical format“, it is also stated in the press release of the Auto Registry.
For now, it is not possible to estimate how long the problem will be fixed, nor when the activity of the ITP stations will resume.
And in the case of vehicles whose Periodic Technical Inspection expires these days, unfortunately, no derogation can be made. Thus, until the ITP stations resume their activity, they will not have the right of movement.
The penalty for driving a car with an expired ITP is between 4,785 lei and 6,600 lei. In addition, the registration certificate of the vehicle will be withheld.
