Samsung’s mobiles have two apps for viewing images, Samsung’s Gallery and Google Photos. We explain them.
Samsung’s and Google’s dual photo album apps are yet another example of the dual command that characterizes Samsung’s mobile phones. Samsung’s gallery app has in common with Google Photos that you can scroll through photos and zoom in on them, and the photos can be synced to the cloud so you don’t lose them if you lose your phone or have to delete photos if the memory gets full. As for Gallery, the images are synced to the Onedrive cloud service in collaboration with Microsoft. Here there are automatically generated albums called stories that put together pictures that have some kind of common theme, for example a certain trip or blue sky.
Otherwise, Samsung’s focus is on possibilities to edit your images. Here is a wide palette of tools, from cropping images and inserting text or stickers into them to increasingly advanced AI functions for removing or moving objects in the image.
Differences with Google Photos: Google Photos has its own cloud service where images can be synchronized. Editing options are also available here, but they are not as advanced. Google puts more emphasis on auto-generated photo albums and also creates slideshows with animations. Google Photos sends reminders with reminders if notifications are turned on. Google Lens has a button in Google Photos so that the subject of the photo can be identified with image recognition.
