L’Excursionist group of Martorell (AEM) has celebrated one of the central events of the commemoration of 40 years of history, with a hiking and mountain trip to the Aosta Valley, in the Alps. A dozen board members and partners returned, last weekend, from an eight-day stay in this region with special status within the Italian state. The expeditioners combined cultural tourism and sport, planning hiking and mountain trips around the area.
The entity chose the Aosta Valley as a destination “because we considered that there were many possibilities to take routes through spectacular landscapes”, points out Encarna Montroig, member of the hiking section of the AEM. In this way, “we enjoyed it a lot, especially the spectacular flora everywhere. Instead, the snow was conspicuous by its absence, compared to what had been there decades ago.”

The expedition shared cars for travel and stayed at a campsite on the outskirts of Aosta. Already there, they programmed a series of excursions according to the level. The hiking group hiked around Arpy Lake, the Rû Neuf Canal, the course of the Artanavaz River, the Cervino Valley – from the village of Cervinia and going up by cable car to Plan Maison and going to Lake Goillet and Lake Blue-.
The mountain ones “specifically did a Via Ferrata on Monte Chetif and crowned the 3,090 meters of the Vallette peak from Pila, with great views of Mont Blanc”.

Both shared outings: the first, at the castle of Sant Pierre, with lunch of local products in Bionaz and trekking in the Alpelline valley and the Place Molins lake, at 2000 meters of altitude. They also all went to Val de Lys, the most eastern part of Aosta, to enjoy the views of Monte Rossa.
Already with a cultural focus, a visit to the Savoy castle and the village of Fontainemore was scheduled. “This valley is full of castles, and we went to see some of the most significant ones, like Aymavilles, surrounded by vineyards. We also approached the remains of the Roman aqueduct of the Ponte d’Aël, and part of the wall of Aosta.”

The club is already working to finalize the 2024-25 away schedule and present it before September. The format of the next Mountain and Nature Photography Competition, which will reach its 33rd consecutive edition around the Rose Festival, is also being designed.
