Alfa Romeo Junior Q4, the engine
So if under the hood remains the 1.2 3-cylinder turbo petrol flanked by a small electric motor integrated into the 6-speed dual clutch transmission, the Alfa Romeo Junior Q4 adds a second 21 kW unit coupled to the rear axleso as to give life to all-wheel drive. Without the need to have a mechanical connection between the two axes.

This is in fact the scheme already seen on Jeep Avenger 4xewhich allows you to always use the all-wheel drive, regardless of the battery charge: the 1.2 in fact also works as a generator, recharging it when the energy reserve starts to drop.

What makes the difference is the speed. Even if the press release does not specify it, like the seven-slot crossover, the Junior Q4 should also offer it 3 different traction modes: integral always engaged up to 30 km/h, active only if necessary (depending on ground conditions) between 31 and 90 km/h, disengaged above 90 km/h.
There will also be the DNA selector typical of Alfa Romeo, with “Dynamic” mode to exploit all the power of the powertrain, “Natural” for daily use, “Q4” for low grip conditions and “Advanced Efficiency” to optimize consumption.
