Los Angeles – At the age of 69, the American actor Tony Todd, who played in more than two hundred films and television shows during a 40-year career, died this week. His best-known roles include the killer from the horror film Candyman, he also appeared in the Oscar-winning war film Squad.
The death of the actor was reported by the American media with reference to his agent. Todd died Wednesday at his home in Los Angeles, the cause of death was unknown. The Washington native has appeared in several films and television productions this year as well.
He has amassed more than 240 roles throughout his career, according to the website Deadline. In the 1992 film Candyman, he portrayed a murderous man with a grappling hook for a hand in a story based on the legend of a Chicago slum killer. He appeared alongside Hollywood stars in titles such as Squad, The Rock or the horror series Irreversible Fate, his television career included the detective series Matlock and Law and Order.
“Tony leaves behind an indelible legacy in film, theater and in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him,” the company of Todd’s agent, Jeffrey Goldberg, said in a statement. Film studio New Line Cinema, in turn, said that Hollywood “lost a legend”. “We have lost a dear friend. Rest in peace, Tony,” the AP quoted the statement as saying.
