Because progress muss sein! But apparently Notepad wasn’t on the priority list when the guys at Microsoft decided to upgrade it only in recent years. They were probably celebrating the success of W11.
Notepad, or notepad in the Czech version of Windows, saw the light of day (back then it was still light) in 1983. Which makes it a real great-grandfather and it’s a miracle that it survived to this day. For years he was overlooked and largely ignored, but in recent years it has finally caught on. With the arrival of W11, it also received a few more modern functions such as dark mode, automatic saving, recovery of recent files or the ability to open files in tabs as in a browser.
And now, hold on, Microsoft has sweated out an update with spell check and autocorrect. And it works just as you would expect. When you type stupidity, Notepad goes crazy with red squiggles and you have a choice of what to do with it. Just like in Word or Libre Office. Hardcore users will appreciate that they can turn off the new features. Real h4x0ers have been using something like Notepad++ for a long time, so they don’t care. And the die-hard among us stuck with the real paper notepad pad with pencil.
