As LETA agency was informed by the Cabinet of Ministers (MK), the money prize of the Cabinet of Ministers (MK), which will be awarded to the team of the film “Straume”, is equivalent to that received by athletes for high achievements at the international level.

Funding will be allocated from the state budget program “Funds for unexpected events”.

300,000 euros will be awarded to the authors of the film – director Gintas Zilbalodis, producer Matīs Kažas, composer Rihardas Zaļupes and the team of the film studio “Dream Well Studio”.

On the other hand, 150,000 euros of funding will be allocated to the international marketing expenses of the film industry. According to the Ministry of Culture, the film “Straume” must be constantly provided with funding to cover international marketing expenses, as well as in order for Latvian films to be able to resonate internationally, to apply for international evaluation, festivals, as well as to find successful co-production partners and distributors, it is necessary to make an international participation fee film markets and film project development courses and other international marketing expenses.

The Ministry of Culture states that Latvia’s support for film production is not competitive compared to the Baltic neighboring countries: in 2024, state budget funding for the film industry in Estonia reached 19,717,363 euros, in Lithuania – 10,053,000 euros, while in Latvia – only 8,468,807 euros.

It has already been announced that “Straume” has won several international awards, but Latvia has never received such an award, so such an achievement deserves a joint evaluation by the government, emphasized the Prime Minister.

As reported, Latvian director Gints Zilbalož’s film “Straume” was awarded the best animated film award at the “Golden Globes” awards ceremony in Beverly Hills, USA on Sunday.

Five other films – “Inside Out 2”, “Moana 2”, “Memoir of a Snail”, “Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl” and “The Wild Robot” – were nominated for the award in this category.

The animated film “Stream” is a 3D animation story about an individualist Cat, who is forced to leave his home during a great flood and take refuge in a small boat together with other animals. In order to survive in the new and uninhabited world, the Cat must change his habits and cooperate with the Dog, Capybara, Lemur and Bird.

The creative team of the film “Straume” includes director, producer, screenwriter and artist Zilbalodis, producer and co-author of the script Matīss Kaža, producers Ron Diāns and Gregory Zalkmans, sound director Gurvals Koiks-Gallas, chief animator Leo Silī-Pelisier, music authors Zilbalodis and Rihards Zaļupe , visual effects artists Konstantīns Visņevskis and Mārtiņš Upītis.
