NATO countries do not have to fear them at all. Moscow itself has proven this. The 3M22 Zirkon is an anti-ship hypersonic cruise missile. They are placed, among others, on multi-purpose nuclear submarines of the Jasień project. After being launched from the Black Sea, they can reach most of Ukraine’s territories and even NATO countries.

The missile is 8-10 meters long and can carry warhead weighing 300-400 kilogramsaccelerates in flight to over 10,000 km/h and offers a range of 1,500 kilometers. But that’s not all. According to the Kremlin, the missiles are capable of carrying nuclear weapons.

The Russians used it for the first time 3M22 Zirkon missile to attack Ukraine only in February this year. The Ukrainian Armed Forces then announced that they had shot down the weapon in flight. The military found the missile’s drive badly damaged. His photos were published on the global network. Interestingly, elements of these weapons have been transferred to NATO laboratories, where engineers will take a closer look at them and try to improve defense systems that will neutralize them more effectively.

According to the Pentagon, the latest MIM-104 Patriot air defense systems they can handle this weapon without any problems. Ukrainian versions of these American systems are also effective against Zircons. It turns out that the Ukrainians managed to shoot down at least two of these Russian missiles, over Kiev itself.

Unfortunately, according to official information from SZU, one of the six Zircons used so far was hit this spring in the building of the Kiev State Academy of Decorative Applied Arts and Design. Mikhail Boychuk. As a result of the attack, part of the facility collapsed. Ten people were injured, two were taken to hospital. This was the only attack that the Kremlin was successful using this weapon.

Currently, the Russian army has not used these missiles in attacks on Ukrainian cities for many months.
