The novelty, which can be collected even without RAM and storage, is based on the Intel Twin Lake platform.
ASUS’ division dealing with mini machines is not bored, as the company has announced the NUC 14 Essential named iron, which is an entry-level product based on Intel Core N series processors.
The motherboard of the solution, which can be chosen with Intel N150 or N250, or Core 3 N355, or even N97 central units, has a single SO-DIMM DDR5 slot, in which a maximum of 16 GB of notebook memory with an effective clock signal of 4800 MHz can be placed. The minimum SSD available in the single M.2 2242/2280 connector can be 128 GB and the maximum 2 TB, but both SATA and x4 PCI Express 3.0 interfaces are supported.
Access to the network can be achieved with a 2.5 gigabit Ethernet powered by a Realtek RTL8125BG-CG controller, or with an Intel AX211 chip Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 module, while a Realtek ALC3251 sound codec takes care of the noise generation. The construction with fTPM or TPM 2.0 chip is powered by a 65-watt external adapter, and while on the front there is a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C, plus two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports next to the 3.5 mm jack. on the back, an HDMI 2.1 TDMS output, a DisplayPort 1.4, and a DisplayPort alt-mode USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C, two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A and one USB 2.0 connector are lined up in addition to the DC-in connector.
Of course, the machine with physical dimensions of 135 x 115 x 36 mm does not lack VESA mounting, and its components are cooled by an aluminum rib supplemented by a heat-conducting pipe and a blower fan. The included operating system is Windows 11 by default, but if we intend to buy the product as a barebones – which in principle costs around (net) 300 dollars – then 64-bit Ubuntu 24.04 LTS and RedHat Enterprise Linux are also among the alternatives, although we need then we will install.
The door-to-door warranty covering 50 countries is valid for 3 years, and the management is offered by the ASUS Control Center software, so we only have questions about the exact pricing.
