The school year in Hungarian schools may begin in September with significant restrictions. The draft, which was posted on the government’s website on Thursday, after a few days of “social consultation”, would soon come into force on the basis of the administrative practice of the decree referring to the state of war, because it would be applied from September this year – writes the hvg.hu. According to the draft government decree, the purpose of the series of measures is “to prevent individual acts of violence in public education institutions and to protect the physical and mental health of students”.
On the basis of a previously adopted law, the government was authorized to determine prohibited and prohibited objects for all schools and colleges, as well as those that may only be used in class with the principal’s permission. It became clear even then that this also affects the significant restriction of the use of mobile phones in school, and foresees the use of various digital devices with teacher’s permission for educational purposes only. There will be “prohibited” and “restricted use” items in schools and colleges. The list of these is specified and determined by the draft government decree.
According to this, the list of “prohibited items” includes all devices that are particularly dangerous to public safety, as well as all items whose possession is punishable by law or the Penal Code, and finally all products that cannot be purchased by persons under the age of 18.
The other, milder category is that of “restricted in use” items. This includes “telecommunication devices – especially mobile phones -, devices capable of recording images or sound, and smart devices capable of accessing the Internet.” In other words, in addition to mobile phones and laptops, this would also include digital or analog cameras, voice recorders, smart watches and e-book readers.
These devices are used throughout the school day in grades 1-8 of elementary school, and in grades 5-12 of high school. in his grade, the whole school day, the vocational high school from 9-13. it will be forbidden to use it during the whole school day in the grade, during the sessions in the dormitories, during the sessions, lessons and the time spent in the institution in all grades of the elementary art school, during the sessions, lessons and the time spent in the institution in all the grades of the vocational school.
In the case of tools and objects that are not prohibited, but have limited use, the government is willing to make such concessions that the principal and teacher can authorize the student’s possession and use.
