ECONOMY – Good news for savers. Before December 31, 57 million French people will receive an average transfer of 212 euros to their bank account. This amount, announced by the Banque de France at actu.fr this Friday, December 27, corresponds to the interest generated by Livret A.

A flagship savings product in France, the Livret A is today held by more than 82% of French people. Its operation is simple: interest, calculated on the 1st and 16th of each month, is paid annually, at the end of the year. In addition, the interest it generates is entirely exempt from income tax and social security contributions.

In 2023, with an average outstanding amount of 7,077 euros per booklet and a rate set at 3%, savers will benefit on average from 212 euros, reports actu.fr. However, its rate of 3%, maintained until January 2025, should drop to 2.5% from next February, as announced by the Minister of the Economy Éric Lombard. This decline is explained by the slowdown in inflation.

Beyond the interest on the Livret A, many French people will also receive the interest on other savings products: the Sustainable and Solidarity Development Booklet (LDDS) and the Popular Savings Booklet (LEP). For the LDDS, savers will receive on average 174 euros. As for the LEP, reserved for modest incomes, it will offer an average remuneration of 263 euros with a rate of 4%.

Finally, as the end of the year approaches, savers will also be able to receive interest from the Housing Savings Account (CEL) and the Housing Savings Plan (PEL). These two products remain advantageous tools for supporting real estate projects or developing longer-term savings.
