Czech baseball players ended their Asian tour with a defeat. In the final warm-up game against favored Japan, they lost 0:9 in Nagoya today, the opponent scored six points in the eighth inning. The Czech representatives lost to the world number one and winners of last year’s World Baseball Classic tournament for the second time. They lost to them 1:7 on Saturday.
The double match against Japan culminated a string of four preparatory matches in Asia for the Czech players. Last week they played two duels in Taiwan, where they first drew 2:2 and then lost 3:10. The Japanese also had duels with coach Pavel Chadim’s team as preparation for the Premier 12 tournament for the twelve best countries in the WBC World Federation ranking.
“With these big teams you have to play without mistakes. Like we played in Taiwan. But let’s not forget it’s the end of November. The guys usually finish at the end of September and I’m proud of them. I’m excited. I’m not taking it tragically at all. I believe we will benefit from these matches in the future,” manager Pavel Chadim said in a press release.
The Japanese came out on top in the opening innings. Šota Morišita hit a two-run home run on Ondřej Satoria’s pitch. In the third inning, 18-year-old Michael Senay came to the pitching mound and managed to eliminate the opponent’s attack in the next four innings.
In the seventh inning, Senay was replaced by Lukáš Ercoli and the Japanese added a third point. After two steals, he reached the third base of Ryota Isobata and increased the home team’s lead after Sosuke Genda’s hit.
The Japanese finally decided in the eighth inning. After Ryosuke Tacumi’s at-bat, Keita Sano struck out, and the Czech Republic didn’t even change a few pitchers. The favorites punished other mistakes of Chadim’s team and added five more points. Only Tomáš Duffek stopped their attack on the pitch.
“They gave up two runs in the first inning, but we had a lot of innings where we loaded the bases and were in scoring position and had a chance to score. If we had put it up, it would have put us back in the game a little bit. reduced. The Japanese will catch even the slightest mistake and then it’s hard to stop the runaway train,” said the outside polar bearer Arnošt Dubový.
In the end, the Czechs strove for an honorable success and occupied the second and third targets, but the Japanese defended themselves. They did the same in the final inning, when they eliminated Matouš Bubeník’s run in the last attack.
“(The Japanese) showed that they are the best in the world even without the stars they had at the World Baseball Classic. It’s a huge honor and experience for us for next year. It showed us the reality of what we need to work on and hopefully next time in Tokyo We will be more competitive at home,” Dubový said.
