The trilogy of films by Batman: The Dark Knight (2005 -2012), written and directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Christian Bale, included the most disruptive car in the Batman universe. Nolan was inspired by Frank Miller’s comic strips to create a intermediate between a Lamborghini and a tank of war. It was constructed from models of cars, boats and planes to create its rigid, angular shapes. He called him Tumbler.
To celebrate Batman’s 85th anniversary, Warner Bros. will release 10 replicas of the working carfor the humble price of 2 million and 990 thousand dollars. The Tumbler will have a more dignified construction this time, with a tubular chassis in aeronautical steel and body panels in Kevlar – a very resistant and light synthetic aramid fiber –, carbon fiber, fiberglass and sheet metal. 64 meters long and 2.82 meters wide, but its 2,500 kg make the model a car lighter than an SUV.
The Batmobile’s available engine is a 6.2-liter V8: the same engine used in the Chevrolet Corvette C6. It also features 4-speed automatic transmission, with paddle shifters for greater control. The jet engine in the back of The Tumbler, however, It is not functional nor does it spark flames, but simulates the noises of what an engine of this type would be.
Despite being completely usable, the car would not be the most agile and not legal to drive on the road. Still, the interior is customizable and includes an instrument panel, infotainment system and climate control system, and can even be built with right-hand drive.
The 10 Tumblers are a launch of the Wayne Enterprises Experiencea luxury brand created in 2022 in partnership with Warner Bros that sells items straight from the Bruce Wayne universe.
Those interested in purchasing the Batmobile must register on the Wayne Enterprises website. Purchase will later be possible for the most exclusive collectors, by invitation, and production of each model is expected to take up to 15 months.
