The mayor of Martorell, Xavier Fonollosa; the Councilor for Sports, Gerard Mimó, and the Councilor for Education and Health, Soledad Rosende, have attended the awarding ceremony prize ‘Beactive’ 2024granted by the European Commission. Our population was invited as an awardee last year for the programMartorell Educa 360‘. The gala took place this evening at the Cardo Hotel in Brussels (Belgium).
Now a year ago, Martorell was recognized with the Award ‘BeActive‘ 2023 in the ‘Education’ category for the ‘Martorell Educa 360’ program, which offers all children and teenagers in the village free, quality and universal extracurricular activities. One of the most important municipal social projects, which is committed to equal opportunities.
This category highlighted how education can encourage children to be active outside of sport or typical physical activity at school. This includes extracurricular activities and other creative proposals that create an active educational environment.
As part of this year’s gala, councilor Soledad Rosende explained what the impact of winning this award has been in the community and what changes have occurred as a result.
At the community level, Rosende emphasized that “it has made us reflect on the importance of collective work. It has been an opportunity to strengthen the feeling of local pride, to grow the project with the involvement, participation and commitment of all agents: schools, children, families, organizations and professionals”.
At an institutional level, “it has opened doors for us to participate in spaces of reflection and knowledge, where we have been able to share experiences with other municipalities and European institutions. These exchanges have enriched and motivated us to continue innovating”.
Finally, the councilor pointed out that the award “has given us a projection beyond Martorell and positioned us as an example of a successful educational initiative, which can inspire other territories”.
This is the fifth year that the ‘Martorell Educa 360’ has been deployed, this year expanding its catalog of activities to reach all school age groups.
Currently, the City Council is working on different strategic lines that strengthen the program, such as better involving families in the education of boys and girls, beyond the choice of school and the extracurricular activities that suit them for the work and family reconciliation.
Also improve the quality of the activities through training and reducing the turnover of the teams of educators, through the increase in dedication and salary. And improve the integration between teaching and educational activities, incorporating school canteen services into the program’s educational strategy.
