Prague – The BENU pharmacy chain, which had to close its branches on Friday due to a global outage of IT systems, has resumed operations in all establishments. ČTK was informed about this today by the company’s spokesperson Veronika Forejtová. Pharmacies operate without restrictions.
“BENU pharmacies are fully functional for patients. Just like the e-shop and e-Prescription online booking. We apologize to customers for the complications on Friday caused by global IT system problems,” said the spokeswoman. So on Monday, all pharmacies will operate without restrictions. “Now our priority is to operate in a fully restored network, then we will address the issue of security measures and other consequences associated with a network outage,” the spokeswoman added.
On Friday, the BENU e-shop and online e-Prescription reservations were temporarily unavailable. As of 6:00 p.m., more than a hundred pharmacies had yet to resume operations, but pharmacies with weekend operations, e-commerce and prescription reservations were already fully operational. On Saturday morning, the company announced that it had managed to restore the functioning of most of the branches and that technicians had to repair the systems in 35 establishments.
In the Czech Republic, BENU operates 375 pharmacies, of which 263 are its own and 112 are franchised. The largest pharmacy network in the Czech Republic, Dr. Max from the Penta group, she didn’t report any problems.
A global outage of Microsoft’s Windows IT services that affected aviation, banking, media and other industries in a number of countries on Friday was caused by a failed software update from cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike. In the Czech Republic, there were problems mainly at the Prague airport. Airlines had to check in passengers either in an alternate system or manually, which took longer and caused delays.
