The best 10 gourmet delicatessen shops in the Czech Republic.: We have discovered exclusive gastronomic gems in Prague and outside Prague. | News

The Czech Republic is a country where tradition meets innovation in gastronomy, and offers a wide range of delicacies that will appeal to even the most demanding gourmets.

During our travels, we tried several of the best establishments in the Czech Republic, which we would like to introduce to everyone who appreciates exceptional taste and quality. The key to judging for us is the quality of the products, preferably in organic or artisanal quality, the quality of the suppliers, whether they are farmers, winemakers from the Czech Republic or other European countries, the understandable specialization of the store, locality and sustainability, the design of the store and, of course, the service offered. Based on these parameters, we offer you this great selection of businesses with soul.

Sabores na Náplavka – Prague

Sabores is a gourmet gem in Prague’s Náplavka, which brings an authentic Spanish experience to the Czech gastronomic scene. This delicatessen boutique specializes in high quality Spanish products such as selected olives, fantastic quality olive oils, cheeses, jamóns, sausages, seafood, wines and other delicacies. The company, led by Jarka Šnejdarová, imports directly from Spain, and the basic rule is that they only work with prestigious farmers and winemakers who are considered the creme de la creme in Spain. Which then corresponds to the offer and which the Spaniards are also amazed by. The design of the store is very good and pleasant. The atmosphere of the store is very pleasant and the staff willingly advised on the selection. We were personally interested in the beautiful fruit wines from Mallorca from Anima Negra cellars, truffle chips from Ibiza that really taste like truffles and, as we were told, the best ham in the world – Joselito Iberian ham. In the store, you can also sit down for tapas and taste quality coffee, which for us is a bit hipster.

The Italians – Smíchov, Prague

The Italians in Prague’s Smíchov has long been a haven for lovers of Italian wine and culinary delicacies such as Prosciutto di Parma or Aceto Balsamico Di Modena. Italians also has other branches, but we feel best here, in the large Smíchov area with a wide range. We tasted top Barolo wines combined with a rich selection of delicacies such as cheeses, cured meats and olives. Of course, this is paradise for lovers of authentic Prosecco. It is also ideal for us that they also have a wide selection of baked goods, fish and meat products. This concept has a great advantage in its size and therefore complexity, you can really find everything here. So if you want to enjoy Italian delicacies, buy pasta to prepare at home or learn new things about the world of Italian wine and gastronomy, you are in the right place.

Mitrovsky Angus Maliňák – Brno

The Mitrovsky farm is a concept in Moravia. In 2023, its owner, Mr. Kalný, decided to move closer to his customer and open a store in the center of Brno, which made us very happy. We still hope that his concept will expand even to Prague. For us, his bet on traditional processes, quality ingredients and genuine care for animals is the right way for gastronomy to go. The farm is renowned for its focus on the perfect cycle of animal care, which is then reflected in the resulting quality products. Meat in all forms – Angus beef, pork, chicken, eggs and other traditional products. We bought juicy steaks, delicious burgers and eggs at the store. We warmly recommend to everyone that you probably won’t find a better local sirloin in the Czech Republic.

Real Meat Society od Paula Day – Praha

Another interesting project is the Real Meat Society, led by Paul Day. We apologize to all vegans, this establishment is another oasis for lovers of real meat. It is located in the center of Prague near Mánes and offers selected meat, with a clear emphasis on quality. We were most impressed by their matured sprouts, which everyone can have cut according to their own preferences. Nicely matured top roast, sirloin and other cuts are guaranteed to please any lover of quality meat. In addition, Paul prepares regular barbecues for the summer, where you can also taste the meat on site.

Eska – Prague

Among the best gourmet shops, we had to include Karlínka Eska, Eska is not just an ordinary bakery. It is the best bakery in the Czech Republic, where they specialize very carefully in baking bread and other types of baked goods. All this with the help of traditional methods and procedures under the supervision of Jarda Kazdělka. For us, pastry lovers, this place was an inevitable stop, where we tasted the almost forgotten tastes of real bread from our childhood. Bread labeled 33 is unrivaled in the Czech Republic. However, the selection of cakes, strudels, etc. is also very good here. We also bought various other Czech farm delicacies, including blueberry yogurt, pickled pears or pickles.

La Formaggeria – Brno (Vegetable market)

Another Brno business, this time for lovers of cheese and Italian delicacies, La Formaggeria on Zelné trhu certainly does not have as wide an offer as Wine Food, but it is an interesting alternative even in terms of price. Although it is a chain and a wholesaler that also supplies its products to large supermarkets, we decided to include this pleasant store in our selection. In our opinion, this is one of the most successful stores of this chain in terms of design, offer and service. The store offers a wide selection of its own and Italian cheeses and other delicacies. During our visit, we enjoyed speckles with tartufia pesto, and the already classic local cheese of the Parmesan type, which has an interesting intense taste and aroma. We also tasted fresh mozzarella with tomatoes and basil. The range of wines is certainly not at the same level as, for example, in Sabores, but even so you can find interesting pieces.

Homepage – The Cheese Shop

House of Julius Meinl

There is a small House of Julius Meinl store on Senovážné náměstí in Prague 1. This shop offers a selection of interesting delicacies such as caviar, cured meats, cheeses, oils, jams, teas and confectionery. In the shop you can also choose wines, champagne and a limited selection of spirits. Depending on the time of year, seasonal products such as Easter treats or the traditional Italian Christmas Panettone are also available. The store will also prepare gift baskets and packages according to your wishes. The selection could be wider and in some cases certainly better quality, but still this store is interesting.

Oliveira Market – Prague

Oliveira Market is certainly an interesting stop especially for lovers of Portuguese gastronomy. This smaller establishment in Prague’s Vinohrady offers a sufficient selection of Portuguese wines from well-known regions such as Douro or Alentejo, with which you can try typical Portuguese sardinhas and other interesting canapés. We immersed ourselves in the atmosphere of Portuguese cuisine and discovered typical flavors and aromas. Among the products tasted was Portuguese chouriço, which went well with red wine from the Douro region. We were a little sorry that they don’t work with much higher quality black pigs like in Sabores. We also tasted this delicacy from the local region of Extremadura on our travels in Portugal. We also enjoyed stuffed spicy olives and port wine. And of course we recommend the widespread Sardinhas throughout Portugal..

Micro market – Prague

On Malá Strana, we came across an interesting micro market and bistro, where the aroma of baked goods, cold meats and cheese mingles. We tried the plated bowls and cakes which were quite tasty. The atmosphere is suitable for a quick breakfast, brunch or light lunch. The menu is wide – from croissants and focaccia to filled baguettes, which you can assemble according to your own choice. You can have a glass of Prosecco or wine with it. There is a play area for children. However, the quality of the coffee could be better – some quality arabica would certainly improve the space.

At Oliver’s in Letňany

The U Olivera store in Letňany and Holešovicí is also an interesting concept. We were more interested in the branch in Letňany. The store tries to work with local ingredients, especially of the vegetable type, but tale offers some extras in the form of foreign products such as olive oil, olives, tapenades and other interesting things. There is a very good selection of local vegetables and seasonal fruit. It would certainly behoove the store to expand this offer more and focus 100% on local suppliers. But even so, if you are looking for products from local farmers, we recommend visiting this interesting concept and we are rooting for further development.
