Teo Rodríguez from the restaurant ‘Trasto’ (Valladolid) has won the title of ‘World Tapas Champion’ for ‘Pucela roll’
The trophy presentation took place this afternoon at the Millennium Dome in Valladolid during the Closing Ceremony of both competitions.
After three dizzying days of competition, We have new tapas champions! The winners were named during the Closing Gala held at the Millennium Dome in Valladolid. Iñigo Tizón Dilisfrom the ‘Gran Sol’ restaurant in Hondarribia (Guipúzcoa), has become the champion of the ‘National Pinchos and Tapas Contest’ with its miniature version of the classic barbecue ribs under the name “Los Lunes al Sol”; and Teo Rodríguez from the restaurant ‘Trasto’ (Valladolid) has won the title of ‘World Tapas Champion’ with its proposal “Pucela Roll”, a filled puff pastry ‘roll’.
The mayor of Valladolid, Jesús Julio Carnero, authorities, organizers and juries, have verified the closing ceremony of an event that constitutesdefinitely, the most important of the gastronomic activities dedicated to tapas at the national levela culinary modality that advocates creativity and haute cuisine in its most popular and collective format. With this edition, it has been 20 years full of emotion, creativity, passion for miniature cuisine and great creations.
The best pinchos and tapas in Spain
· National Pinchos and Tapas Champion 2024: Iñigo Tizón Dilis, from Bar Gran Sol (Hondarribia, Guipúzcoa) for his cover ‘Los Lunes al Sol’.
‘Mondays in the Sun’ It is a version in miniature of a classic such as barbecue ribs. As the winner, Iñigo Tizón Dilis was given a check valued at €10,000 and the trophy that accredits him as Spanish Tapas Champion.
· National Pinchos and Tapas Runner-up 2024: Javier González García, from the restaurant ‘Los Zagales’ (Valladolid), for his tapa ‘Kojaz’.
«Kozaz» it’s a partridge lollipops with a sphere of fragrant wine. Javier González won second prize and a check valued at 5,000 euros.
· National Pinchos and Tapas Runner-up 2024: Aitor Martínez Ros, from the restaurant ‘Can Ros’ (Burriana, Castellón), for his tapa ‘Falso Nigiri del Mediterráneo’.
He was given a check valued at €2,500 and the trophy that accredits him as Spanish Tapas Runner-up. According to Aitor’s own words, ‘False Mediterranean Nigiri’ It combines the sea and the orchard of its area (the orange and the “Gallineta”). An orange whey meringue, tartar sauce inside, lacquered and braised fillet of Redfish.
· Second prize of the Provincial Council of Valladolid, of the 2024 National Competition: Miguel Espinosa Ciordia, from ‘El Albergue’ Restaurant (Calahorra, La Rioja) for his tapa ‘Farmer’.
· Second prize for Olive Oils from Spain, from the 2024 National Competition: Enrique Fernández Lacalle, from the Meraki Gastrobar Restaurant (Nájera, La Rioja) for his tapa ‘Don’t eat my ear.’
· Second prize Inhostel, from the 2024 National Contest: Rocío Maya Díaz, from the restaurant ‘La Taberna de Noa’ (Fuentes de León, Badajoz), for her tapa ‘Saam Garbancito’.
The best in the world
On the other hand, the official winners of the eighth edition of the ‘City of Valladolid World Tapas Championship’ were:
· Tapas World Champion 2024: Teo Rodríguez, from Restaurant Trasto (Spain), for its “Pucela Roll” cover.
A check valued at €10,000 and the trophy accrediting him as World Tapas Champion were presented. «Pucela Roll» the exquisite puff pastry “roll” filled with a lamb stew with kare raisu (Japanese curry), cooked demi-glace and pistachio which proclaimed him the winner of the ‘XIX National Pinchos and Tapas Contest of the City of Valladolid’ in November 2023.
· Runner-up in the World of Tapas 2024: Ludovic Cruz Mangel, from the Restaurant ‘Lenôtre’ (France), for his tapa ‘Éden’.
A check valued at €5,000 and the trophy accrediting him as World Tapas Runner-up were presented.
· Runner-up in the World of Tapas 2024: Alfonso Rodríguez, from the Restaurant ‘Locavore NXT’ (Indonesia), for his cover ‘Sincretismo’.
For this third prize, he was given a check valued at 2,500 euros, a diploma and a trophy accrediting him as World Tapas Runner-up.
· Querétaro Mexico Second Prize for the 2024 World Championship: Zach Duxfield, from ‘Paris Butter’ Restaurant (New Zealand), for his ‘Meat and Mushroom Toast’ tapa.
· Second place France – Taste France, from the 2024 World Championship: Jordi Casas, from the Asador Catalán Restaurant (Mexico), for his ‘Chamuco’ tapa.
· Second place Mahou San Miguel, from the 2024 World Championship: Imrun Texeira, from the ‘Wanderlust’ Restaurant (Canada), for his tapa ‘Mariposa Tikka Masala’.

Iñigo Tizón now becomes part of a long list of Champions who during the last 20 years have surprised some of the most demanding palates of national and international cuisine who have served as a jury in this unmissable event with miniature gastronomy in the Castilian-Leonese capital.
