The England national team defeated the Greek national team 3-0 on Thursday evening, away, in Group B2 of the Nations League.
Lee Carsley’s side dominated the match in Athens and after Watkins opened the scoring in the 7th minute, the fate of the match was decided. First there was Bellingham’s shot that went in after hitting the post and then hit the Greek keeper in the back, then came Curtis Jones’ backheel goal.
England have reached 12 points, level with Greece, but are top of Group B2 and hoping for promotion to the first division of the Nations League. Until then, England need a win against Ireland, who have six points and edged Finland 1-0 in a game where Finnish top scorer Pohjanpalo missed a penalty.
After this failure, Greece fell behind Romania in the ranking that decides the teams that will be part of the second urn of the draw for the WC 2026 preliminaries.
The Romanian national team plays, on Friday, the penultimate match in the League of Nations. The tricolors meet the Kosovo status team, at the National Arena, in a match scheduled for 21.45.
