German car manufacturers will return to the Paris Motor Show. Volkswagen Group brands VW, Audi and Škoda have announced their participation in the event, which will take place from October 14 to 20, writes Automotive News Europe.
The BMW Group will be present with the BMW and Mini brands. Other brands that have confirmed their participation are Renault, Dacia and Alpine and Stellantis’ three French brands, Citroen, DS and Peugeot. Among the Asian car manufacturers, the South Korean brand Kia has confirmed its presence, and the only Chinese brand that will definitely come to the fair is Seres, according to HAK magazine.
The fair in Paris was in crisis for a long time, in 2020 due to the coronavirus, and in 2022 only a few French brands participated, along with BYD and several Asian brands. This is the return of Paris to the big doors. The fair is held every two years, alternating with the main motor show in Germany, which is now hosted by Munich.
The presence of VW, BMW and Kia at the Paris show after skipping the 2022 event indicates concern among European and Korean automakers about increasing competition from Chinese brands. Because of this, they are obviously looking for an ever-increasing marketing presence. Some automakers have remained undecided or have yet to respond to questions about their participation, including Toyota and Stellantis’ brands such as Alfa Romeo, Fiat and Lancia.
There are no big Chinese brands at the fair, MG, BYD, Chery and Great Wall will not be participating. Chinese brands face a double challenge in France: With newly imposed tariffs from the European Union, the French government has refused to subsidize electric cars made in Asia, including China, Japan and South Korea. That is why these vehicles are more expensive, up to 4000 euros.
