The BME could soon become a model-changing university

The government decides who will have the authority to maintain the University of Technology – the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) informed our newspaper about this. The Magyar Nemzet contacted the University of Technology in connection with the model change, which, according to press reports, has again become a topical issue. They also told our newspaper that “the BME does not make proposals to the government”. With this, the university indicated that they do not propose anything in this matter – who has the authority to maintain the institution – the government must decide on the issue.

The university also revealed that

in the current model, the operation and development of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics is difficult, according to the university community, a new framework is needed.

This new framework could even mean that a new maintainer takes over the operation of the BME, which could even be a company, but this was not addressed in the university’s response.

In their opinion, the new “framework” is needed to ensure the competitiveness of the BME in the changing world, and to enable students to participate in the Erasmus and Horizon tender programs of the European Union. However, this would not currently be possible in the case of foundation maintenance.
