The performance model is set to go out of production next year, and the rest of the BMW 8 Series range could suffer the same fate.
The car market has changed, and people don’t seem to be looking for big, luxury coupes or convertibles anymore, which is why many manufacturers have started to phase them out. For example, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe and Cabriolet have been removed from the range, and BMW would do the same with the 8 Series, reports Carscoops.
According to the latest information, the first on the list is the BMW M8, the most powerful version of the 8 Series from BMW. Equipped with a V8 engine that produces up to 625 HP. No more new orders are being accepted, and the remaining orders are expected to be fulfilled over the next two weeks, after which the performance model will be completely withdrawn from the manufacturer’s website and from production.
BMW drops the 8 Series
Brought back to life in 2018, the BMW 8 Series represented the top of the range of coupes and convertibles for the German manufacturer. Also, for the first time in history, BMW also officially launched an M8, which also had a Competition package, offering 625 hp and 750 Nm.
The car is based on the old generation 5 Series, sharing many components as well as some of the engines and technologies. Given the dwindling demand for models like the 8 Series, BMW is unlikely to release a direct replacement anytime soon, and if it does in the future, it will most likely be an electric model.
Recently, BMW announced that it will put the Skytop concept into production. Originally presented in the form of a design study as the BMW Concept Skytop at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este on the shores of Lake Como, the roadster sparked excitement among connoisseurs and car enthusiasts who came to the event. The positive reactions led BMW to turn the concept into a series limited to 50 units.
