For Zuckerberg, it’s almost the end of smartphones
Indeed, it seems that Mark Zuckerberg, who is at the head of Meta, the group behind Facebook, Threads, Instagram and even Threads, has the ability to see into the future. According to the businessman, cell phones are destined to disappear. This downward trend has existed since 2022 according to experts.
For the American billionaire, by 2030, i.e. in five years, new gadgets should take over from smartphones :
There will come a time when your smartphone will be in your pocket longer than it will be out of it. I think this will happen sometime in the 2030s.
But what gadgets could replace smartphones? Mark Zuckerberg is certain that smart glasses will take over. To explain his point of view, he takes the example of the desktop computer which has been replaced by laptops which have themselves been replaced by smartphones.
Mark Zuckerberg’s detractors do not predict the same future
As a reminder, Meta wanted to market smartwatches with the objective that they can replace cell phones and compete with the Apple Watch. It is clear that Zuckerberg’s project did not work because more than a decade later, these smartwatches have still not dethroned smartphones given that Meta abandoned the project despite producing a prototype.
But in 2022, the American group launched Ray-Ban Stories, smart glasses. With this product, Meta was able to attract consumers. Smart glasses have a 5 megapixel camera as well as two speakers and 3 microphones.
By launching the Ray-Ban Meta, the latest generation of this gadget, Zuckerberg is rubbing his hands because the product is a hit in Ray-Ban stores in Europe. As a reminder, last September, Meta presented Orion, augmented reality glasses which are “the most advanced on the planet”
If success is achieved and delights the leader of Meta, Zuckerberg’s detractors disagree about his prediction of our society in 2030. The latter take as an example the fact that the Metaverse was a failure as well as sales which did not take off for the Apple Vision Pro. It remains to be seen in 5 years if Mark Zuckerberg was right.
