Darius Olaru (26 years old) has been in the sights of the Scots from Rangers for more than a year, and has recently become the subject of a potential transfer to Ibrox again.
The vice-champion of Scotland will have to pay the sum of 5,000,000 euros, if they want to transfer him, as much as the termination clause of the FCSB captain.
What the British say about the sale of Darius Olaru from FCSB to Rangers
Darius Olaru has been monitored by Rangers for more than a yearbut despite having him on the list, the Scots never came up with a formal offer.
But recently the interest of Rangers bosses in Darius Olaru has gained momentum again and it was circulated that this time, the vice-champion of Scotland could also come with the official proposal. If they want to secure the services of the FCSB captain, the Ibrox bosses must pay the sum of 5,000,000 euros, as much as Darius Olaru’s release clause.
It is not an exaggerated amount, considering that Darius Olaru has been in exceptional form for more than a year now, and specialist websites, such as Transfermarkt, also value him at 7,000,000 euros.
In the 2024 – 2025 season alone, Darius Olaru contributed 10 goals and 5 assists in the total of 20 matches he played for FCSB. However, Scottish journalists from the publication Ibrox News I still see it as a risky investment:
The Rangers need to make sure Darius Olaru can take the team to the next level. Given the club’s financial situation at Ibrox, any substantial investment in a player such as Olaru must be strategically justified by the player’s potential to raise the team’s performance level. (…) Investing a large sum is a risk that should only be taken if there is certainty that the Romanian can quickly adapt to Scottish football, can improve the team’s level and contribute directly to winning trophies and European performances”, is the conclusion drawn by journalists from Ibrox News.
What Elias Charalambous said about Darius Olaru’s potential departure to Rangers
Like FCSB, Rangers is engaged in the main phase of the Europa League, and on October 24 they even defeated the Romanian champions in a direct match, score 4-0.
In the championship, the situation is not exactly good for the formation to which Ianis Hagi is registered. After 10 stages, Rangers has only 19 points and is in 3rd place in the standings, 9 points away from the leader Celtic. The second position is occupied by Aberdeen, also with 28 points, but with a lower goal difference than Celtic.
I don’t know anything about these rumors, honestly, I’m hearing from you now. I would like to say that I would be very pleased if our players manage to reach a higher level. Because it would be a good thing both for them and for Romanian football. Obviously not for us because we would lose players of such value, but we want their good on the other hand”, said Elias Charalambous, during a press conference, about the potential departure of Darius Olaru.
