After the British Parliament ended the visa-free entry practice for Colombians, Colombian leader Petro reacted to this decision on his social media account.
President Peter, “If the United Kingdom has reintroduced the need for visas for Colombian people, I would like to state that, within the framework of the principle of reciprocity, the Colombian government will also request visas for British citizens who want to come to Colombia.” he said.
Colombian Foreign Minister Gilberto Murillo stated that they are hopeful that England should reconsider its decision.
On the other hand, the representative of one of the British diplomatic missions in Colombia, in his statement to the local press, claimed that there has been a record increase in Colombians entering the UK recently and that members of the Colombian criminal organization are abusing the UK’s visa exemption by issuing fake documents and forms.
In the statement made by the British government, it was stated that Colombians would require a visa to travel to the UK.
Colombians have been exempt from visas for their travels to Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, especially England, since November 2022.
Petro, who met with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer as part of the G20 Summit, requested the continuation of the visa exemption between the two countries and wanted the mutual interaction between Colombian and British citizens to continue.
