It is easier to see the model update in action inside the car, which has been completely rearranged compared to the original Tucson introduced in 2020. The dashboard, center console, steering wheel and center armrest have also changed. The on-board system and dashboard monitor are both 12.3 inches in size. Since they are built on a common base and have a common cover, they look like a large, slightly curved display facing the driver. If the display is not enough, you can even view the information shown by the 12-inch head-up display.
Unfortunately, the car industry does not want to let go of the piano lacquer surface for some reason, there is plenty of shiny, black, easily scratched surface here too. And of course, right where you touch the car the most, on the door, around the window switches. The quality of the equipment is convincing, the steering wheel has a good grip, the seat upholstery is pleasant to the touch, the seats are good, although the seat could be a little longer.
A nice solution is that the position of the mother-in-law seat can also be adjusted from the driver’s seat, or from the back, using the buttons mounted on the side of the seat back. The striking red thread decorative stitching on the center console, steering wheel, and seats greatly improves the dark interior.
The buttons on the steering wheel are real, and they have been designed in such a way that they can also be used blindly after some familiarization. There is a push button, scroll button, everything you need. Moreover, the function of one of them can be programmed, for this it is worth making the driver support systems menu item, so that the multi-step path that leads to disabling the license plate recognition system can be shortened by a few steps.
Buttons, switches
The new climate console is already a strange hybrid, the temperature can be set with a practical rotary knob, but the other functions also have their own, direct buttons, only these have been banished behind a touch-sensitive surface. It’s cool that every function related to ventilation and climate control has its own button, so it’s not worth whining too much about the fact that these aren’t real buttons.
They work, you don’t need to search in the menu, that’s all. Above it, there is the row of buttons for the most important menu items and there is also a regular volume control.
There are also a couple of USB-C charging points, with one of which you can choose whether a data connection is also made when connected, or whether the socket functions only as a charging point. In addition, there is a 12-volt cigarette lighter and a wireless induction charging surface on top of the armrest.
The gear selector is located behind the steering wheel, in a perfectly good place. It is no coincidence that more and more brands decide to move the direction shifter that works without a mechanical connection here.
Second row, trunk
In the back, the angle of inclination of the backrests can be adjusted, and you can travel in a spacious, comfortable environment, for whom this is the ticket. Even with a height of 190 centimetres, the legroom is more than enough, there is still a few fingers’ worth of space between the knees and the backrest of the front seat.
Even due to the extra panoramic roof, the headroom does not shrink so much as to cause discomfort. In addition, there is its own climate control panel, although only the temperature can be adjusted on it, retractable blinds on the side windows, USB-C charging points and three-level adjustable seat heating. What else could be needed?
The trunk is quite large, even in the standard five-door version, with a capacity of 616 liters, which can be expanded to 1,795 liters by folding down the backrests. In this case, the packages can be piled up on a flat surface, for which small tabs are available for fastening. There is another compartment under the floor, where you can store less frequently used small items. The trunk is easy to use, it is easy to fill and you can even use an electric cooler bag in it using the 180 watt 12 volt connector.
