The case is reported by the local media, led by a daily newspaper New Zealand Herald. The prosecutors drew attention to the messages that the defendant sent in the time before the murders, or to the Internet search history, when she entered the phrase “the most effective drug overdose in children” into Google, for example.
The tragedy was preceded by the family moving from South Africa to New Zealand. Dickason and her husband Graham, who are qualified paramedics, believed they would have a quieter life. But the opposite was true. When the woman proceeded to the horrific act, she first tried to kill the children with duct tape. She ended up suffocating them with pillows. She then unsuccessfully tried to commit suicide herself.

When Dickason returned home from a work dinner, he found the children dead. He told the police that although he knew about his wife’s mental problems, he would never have thought that she was capable of killing her own offspring.
The jury’s decision came after a trial that lasted four weeks. Dickason faces life in prison. She sat in the dock while the verdict was read, and wept silently as she left the courtroom.
The defendant’s parents released a statement saying the children’s deaths were the result of their daughter’s mental health issues. “We would like to tell families and individuals around the world to be aware of the symptoms of postnatal depression as soon as possible, both in themselves and in close family or friends,” said Malcolm and Wendy Fawkes.
