The Constitutional Court postponed for Friday, November 29, the decision regarding the request to cancel the first round of the presidential elections, submitted by two electoral competitors, Cristian Terheş and Sebastian Popescu.
The Constitutional Court (CCR) started on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. the session in which it debates on the validation of the results of the elections for the position of president and on two requests to cancel the first round of the presidential elections.
The two candidates who submitted the requests to cancel the first round are Cristian Terheș, the candidate of the Romanian National Conservative Party, who obtained 1.04% and Sebastian Constantin Popescu, the candidate of the New Romania Party, who obtained 0.16% of the total the votes.
According to information G4Mediathe request submitted by Popescu is inadmissible for formal reasons.
A reason for cancellation from the valid application is based on the corrections in several sections of the votes for Ludovic Orban, correction assumed by all members of the voting sections, according to G4Media information. More precisely, they are talking about corrections that led to the decrease of votes for Ludovic Orban from 35 to 1 or from 58 to 1, G4Media also reports.
The law for the election of the president stipulates in article 52 that the CCR cancels the elections only “if the voting and the establishment of the results took place by fraud in such a way as to change the assignment of the mandate or, as the case may be, the order of the candidates”.
“Confirmation/validation of the election result for the position of President of Romania in the first round of voting on November 24, 2024”.
Also on Thursday, November 28, at the Cotroceni Palace, the CSAT meeting will take place regarding possible risks to national security generated by the actions of state and non-state cyber actors on some IT&C infrastructures, support for the electoral process.
The CCR is to send an official press release regarding the postponement decision taken on Thursday.
