‘When Martorell was not there’ is a cycle of nine guided itineraries, which are held on Sunday mornings with a quarterly frequency, and which is starting again. They are aimed at “anyone interested in taking a walk and getting to know aspects of geology, nature, history and heritage of our home”, explains Josep Maria Tella. Sunday’s route “will start at 09.30h from Plaça del Portal d’Anoia, will last approximately four hours and is expected to end around 2.00h”.

It will be a walk along the banks of the Anoia and Llobregat rivers to see their current processes, the formation of the reliefs and geological materials where Martorell and its surroundings are located, to talk about underground water and springs, types of rocks and uses in the area Devil’s Bridge

Next, you will go up to the Telegraf Tower to see a fluvial terrace, you will go down to the La Truita fountain – to explain how the fountains work – and you will continue towards the Martorell Vila-Castellbisbal station, where deposits will be checked various geological sites and the chapel of Sant Bartomeu, as a point and end.

The CEM offers participants the option of having lunch together in a restaurant in Martorell. In this case, it is necessary to communicate and sign up before October 10 in this link.

The geological itinerary will be complemented with historical information on the transformations of the river routes, the Pont del Diable, the Telegraph tower and the chapel of Sant Bartomeu and with different notes on vegetation, flora and fauna. In total, about 5 kilometers will be covered and a cumulative difference in level of 215 meters, with a low degree of difficulty. Tella emphasizes that “it’s a very flat walk” and that “you need to wear suitable clothes and shoes, breakfast and water. And if you want, it is advisable to bring walking sticks and a camera, as we will pass through places with very beautiful views”.

The geologist points out that the intention is to redeploy the entire cycle of 9 trips “re-doing the itineraries as they did a few years ago. Each outing has a specific objective.” According to the calendar, the next proposal will be ‘Geological itinerary II. Martorell and surroundings: Anoia river, torrents and Les Torretes’ range.
