The Chairperson of the CEC revealed when to wait for the election results

Voting in the second round of Seimas elections takes place in 63 single-mandate constituencies where MPs were not elected in the first round. It is during this round that it will become clear who will most likely have the mandate to form the ruling majority in the Seimas.

Seimas members have already been elected in eight single-mandate constituencies, including social democrats Vaida Aleknavičienė and Eugenijus Sabutis, liberal leader Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, former “Labor” Viktoras Fiodorovs, representatives of the Lithuanian Poles’ Election Campaign Jaroslavas Narkevičius and Rita Tamašunienė, Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė and “Nemunas Dawns” ” leader Remigijus Žemaitaitis.

When to expect results?

CEC Chairperson Lina Petronienė asserted that the votes should be counted fairly quickly during the second round of elections.

“We expect that most of the results will be in by midnight, and the larger districts, city districts, by one o’clock in the morning, and after one o’clock there will be only one other district,” – 15min said L. Petronienė.

According to her, the turnout in the second round is not what one would like, but voters are still more active than in 2020.

According to the chairwoman of the CEC, calls were received from voters belonging to constituencies where MPs have already been elected. Voters are said to be surprised to find locked and dark precincts.

We receive calls that voters are active in those constituencies where Seimas members have already been elected – they would also like to vote. But they find the door locked and call us to tell them where to vote.

Still, she said, the second round of the election was reasonably calm, despite an incident involving a drunken commissioner and a ballot that was tucked under the printer — likely a voter who missed the ballot box.

At the same time, the head of the CEC invites voters who have not yet voted to cast their vote, the polling stations will close at 8 p.m.

“Those who did not vote can still run and vote, and then we can wait for the results,” emphasized L. Petronienė.
