The cheap family SUV with the ECO label that you were waiting to buy in 2025 now has a price, and comes with a seven-year warranty

Dacia expands its range and does so with a new SUV: the Dacia Bigster. This 4.57 meter compact SUV is the Romanian brand’s first C-segment model and comes to compete with heavyweights such as the Hyundai Tucson and the Kia Sportage.

It is now on sale with four engines and four trim levels. Like its little brother, the Duster, it also comes with front-wheel drive and 4×4 versions.

Always with the DGT ECO label

With the passage of time and generations, the Dacia Duster It is no longer a low-cost car and has become an attractive SUV that many people want to have because it is a smart purchase. However, its size is a drawback for many of its potential buyers, especially for those who intend to use it as a family car because it is too small for them at 4.34 meters long.

It is something that has never been overlooked for Dacia, but the Romanian brand has the solution: the Dacia Bigster. The older brother of the Dacia Duster was released a few months ago and offers exactly the same formula as the Duster, but in XL format, so that it is aimed directly at families and all those looking for extra space.

As we told you when we met it, the Dacia Bigster is the Dacia Duster recipe replicated in the C segment and is even larger than usual for a compact SUV because it measures 4.57 meters long (23 cm more than the Duster).

To give you an idea, the best-selling car in that segment is the Hyundai Tucson (it was also the fourth best-selling car in Spain in 2024, overall) and measures 4.51 meters long. The second best-selling compact SUV in our country is the Kia Sportage and measures 4.52 meters long.

Beyond size, the Bigster has a similar design to the Duster, both inside and out, but it is considerably wider than its little brother, despite the fact that it sits on the same CMF-B platform from the Renault alliance. Nissan-Mistubishi. It is noticeable, above all, in the rear seats, but also in the trunk, which has 667 liters capacityso it’s huge.

In terms of interior quality and equipment, it is also similar to the Duster, but the Bigster can have more extensive equipment and have things that are not available in the Duster, such as the panoramic sunroof with electric opening. It is one of the ways that Dacia has found to mark differences between both segments.

On a mechanical level, once again, the Bigster has many things in common with the Duster, but it also has exclusive engines. Initially, it is available with four options, all with the DGT ECO label: ECO-G 140 HP, TCe 140 HP, TCe 130 HP 4×4 and Hybrid 155 HP.

He ECO-G de 140 CV It uses a 1.2-liter three-cylinder turbo engine, has light hybridization with a 48V electrical network (MHEV) and can run on both gasoline and LPG. The main advantage of this mechanism is that, combining the 50-liter gasoline tank and the 49-liter gas tank, it offers a total range of up to 1,450 km, according to Dacia. It can only be combined with front-wheel drive and a six-speed manual gearbox.

He TCe de 140 CV It is, in essence, the same engine, but it can only run on gasoline, also linked to front-wheel drive and a six-speed manual transmission. As it has light hybridization (MHEV), it also has the ECO label from the DGT, the same as the TCe de 130 CV 4×4which is also a 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder block, but is associated with a six-speed manual transmission and an all-wheel drive system.

He 155 HP Hybrid It is exclusive to the Bigster. The Dacia Duster and the Dacia Jogger have also been available for some time with a hybrid package (HEV), but with 140 HP. This Bigster hybrid is completely new: it combines two electric motors with a 1.8-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder gasoline engine and a 1.4 kWh capacity battery; The transmission is automatic and clutchless, like the Duster.

Regarding the finishes, there are four available: Essential, Expression, Extreme and Journey. The last two are the top-of-the-range versions, but they have different approaches, at least on an aesthetic level: the Extreme has a more country-oriented approach and the Journey more familiar.

A few months ago, Dacia said that the Bigster would have a starting price of less than 25,000 euros and it has delivered. The Dacia Bigster Essential 140 ECO-G part from 24,590 euros and the Dacia Bigster essential TCe 140 48v costs exactly the same. For its part, the TCe 130 HP 48v 4×4 starts at 27,790 euros with the Expression finish and the Hybrid 155 starts at 29,290 euros, also with the Expression finish.

The Bigster is now on sale, except for the ECO-G versions, which will be available in a few months. Like the rest of the brand’s models, it has a three-year warranty, but it is renewable for 12 months or 30,000 km until it reaches seven years or 150,000 km. The only thing you have to do to renew it every year is maintenance in the official service.

Dacia made a splash as a low-cost brand. This is how you stay in the gap now that the cheap car is dead
