The Renault 5 promised to be a cheap electric car as an alternative to the Chinese offensive. But to date the only Renault 5 electric What you can buy is the 150 HP one: it is the most powerful version with the most autonomy, although it is also the most expensive.
This is going to change very soon: in a week, from November 19, it will be available which will be the cheapest R5 E-Tech for now. This is the 120 HP variant and Renault promises that it will start in 16.900 euros. Although that price has a trick: let’s go with the fine print.
Renault gives you MOVES help, but it is not a discount
It is not something that Renault hides: clearly specifies it in the configurator where we find the three versions of the Renault 5 E-Tech, although right now only the 150 HP one can be configured.
In the case of the 120 HP with 40 kW battery, and in the Evolution base finish, it is indicated that “from 16,900 euros with MOVES III and tax incentive included.” This variant, spot price sets its price at 26,801 eurosso we are talking about almost 10,000 euros less. But you have to take several things into account.
Up to 7,000 euros from MOVES, which must then be returned. On the firm’s website it is indicated that the announced price includes the maximum MOVES III discount: 7,000 euros in the case of plug-in vehicles as long as an old vehicle is scrapped (at least seven years old according to the conditions defined by the Government). If we do not do so, they advance the lowest amount of this incentive: 4,500 euros.
Regarding the “tax incentive”, they refer to the 15% personal income tax deduction for electric and plug-in. Other state aid. From Renault Spain they clarify to us that they are not advancing it, but merely They calculate what the client can deduct in the rent on the price of the car. That is, it applies if it is later deducted in your declaration. In the specific case of the 120 HP electric R5, it would be 2,900 euros. And this is how we find that announced price of 16,900 euros.
On the other hand, and although Renault advances those 7,000 euros (or 4,500 euros) from MOVES, always a part of the aid must be declared in the Income (it is classified as capital gain). So what’s the point of this Renault offer? The advantage is that we enjoy the MOVES at the time of purchase and not retroactively, which is what happens when it is requested directly. And it may take more than a year to receive. Renault tells us that this “loan” of MOVES aid is made for 18 months without interest. This is because normally the longest it takes to collect this aid is 18 months, this way they ensure that the client does not pay more later.
And the Renault 5 for less than 25,000 euros? In parallel, for those who order this version of the 120 HP Renault 5 E-Tech between November 19 and 30, they can opt for this variant for 95 euros per month. This offer also includes the MOVES plan advanced. The monthly bill is calculated over 36 months (three years), with an entry of 9,791 euros and a final installment of 15,847 euros.
