BEIJING – The Chinese Chamber of Commerce for the Import and Export of Machinery and Other Electronic Products has called on the European Commission to change the temporary duties it imposed on the import of electric vehicles from China, with the assessment that these are illegal results obtained in the anti-subsidy investigation of Chinese battery-powered vehicles, reported is China Radio International (CRI).
“Trade defense measures will hurt all parties involved. The EU and China’s electric vehicle industry should lie in cooperation, not conflict,” said Shi Jonghong, vice president of the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products.
According to the CRI, China expresses the hope that a balanced solution can be reached to avoid harm to both sides.
The governments of the EU member states previously expressed different views on the introduction of duties in a non-binding survey.
The European Commission, which oversees the EU bloc’s trade policy, has imposed temporary duties of up to 37.6 percent on electric vehicles imported from China and is examining the views of EU member states in a so-called advisory vote, Reuters reported.
Twelve EU members voted for the tariffs, four were against, and 11 abstained, according to the sources of the British agency. Tanjug
