The Chinese are building a pedestrian-cycling bridge in Novi Sad

Representatives of the Serbian government and the Chinese company Shandong Hi-speed signed a contract on the design and construction of a pedestrian-bicycle bridge that will connect the quay with the Petrovaradin Fortress.

The Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Goran Vesić signed a contract with a Chinese company on the design and execution of works on the bridge and the reconstruction of the tunnel with elevators to the Upper Plateau of the Petrovaradin Fortress in Novi Sad.

“There is no example in the world that in a city with three bridges, three more bridges are being built at the same time, and by 2027, Novi Sad will have a total of six bridges,” said Vesić.

According to his words, the company Shangdong will pay 38 million euros for the construction of the bridge, and the state will begin its repayment after the completion of construction.

He thanked the Chinese company, which, he said, “was understanding of the budget constraints, given the strict deficit that must not exceed three percent, and which made the decision to pre-finance this bridge.”

He added that it is one of three projects in which the company participates, the other two being the ring road around Svilajnec and the continuation of the construction of the Konstantin Veliki airport.

He specified that the work on the construction of that bridge will last 24 months, and the beginning is planned for March or April of the following year, as well as that the construction will be finished in 2027.

“The first two bridges will be finished in 2026 – the big bridge on the Fruškogorsk Corridor in September 2026, and the bridge in the continuation of Bulevar Europa at the end of 2026,” said the minister.
