the Chinese equivalent of the Range Rover

Denza is to BYD what Lexus is to Toyota. This is the high-end and ambitious branch of the Chinese giant. With its new N9 electric car, Denza seems to be aiming directly at Range Rover, and the interior is worthy of British off-road luxury!

It’s in a short video posted on Weibo (the equivalent of Twitter in China) that Denza presented the interior of the Denza N9. And the least we can say is: “WOW! »

Three huge screens!

The dashboard is interesting: it has three screens. There is a digital meter occupying all the space behind the steering wheel, certainly offering a wide variety of customizations, a central infotainment screen as large as the average television from 10 years ago, or almost, and finally a touch screen in front of the passenger, allowing you to display vehicle information or watch entertaining content.

This type of screen for the passenger is already present on certain European cars, such as the Audi Q6 e-tron, the Audi A6 e-tron, the Mercedes EQS and its SUV version, or the Porsche Macan.

But now that there are three screens in the front alone, the rear passengers might be jealous, don’t you think? Denza thought of them and installed an HD monitor in the pavilion allowing films to be broadcast, like on an airplane.

First-class comfort

Installed in the center of the passenger compartment, this retractable screen is visible to all rear passengers, seated as comfortably as in first class on an airplane.

Denza has chosen to accommodate six people on board, thus offering individual seats at the rear with armrests, the possibility of lying down and benefiting from a footrest. This SUV then offers comfort worthy of the largest sedans, such as the BMW i7.

The height of luxury, a small refrigerator for keeping bottles cool is integrated into the central armrest between the front seats, aimed directly at the two rear passengers.

High-end equipment

We could tell you about the panoramic roof, the four-zone automatic air conditioning, the wooden inserts, the two induction phone chargers, or even the blinds on all the rear windows. But all this equipment is already known on other vehicles.

We prefer to talk to you in more detail about the audio system installed in the Denza N9. These are speakers supplied by the French manufacturer Devialet. And as the French origin sells in China – except for the DS 9, apparently – the Devialet name is proudly carried by speaker grilles with an elaborate design.

There are several speakers in the car. There are already three in the dashboard, and there should also be two per door. We do not yet know if this system will have the power and fidelity of Phantom Gold speakers (top of the range from the French manufacturer), but we now know that we must count on Devialet in automobile cabins.

Already present on the Alpine A290 and other Denza cars, Devialet joins the long list of sound manufacturers that can be found in a car, including Bose, Harman Kardon, Bang & Olufsen, Burmester, Focal, Dynaudio, Mark Levinson and many others, like Beats or even JBL.

A 965 horsepower titan!

All this equipment will weigh heavily, very heavily on the scales. It is therefore necessary to properly motorize this 5.26 meter Denza N9.

Denza is not joking and plans to ultimately offer two versions of its N9. First, a plug-in hybrid version developing 925 horsepower thanks to two electric motors and a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo gasoline engine. Given the announced power, the thermal engine will clearly not be the central part to reach such a figure, the 925 horsepower should come mainly from the electric motors. As a reminder, with a 2.0 liter, Mercedes-AMG currently caps at 421 horsepower using an electrified turbo to improve performance. For this hybrid engine, a 47 kWh battery is on board, promising around 165 km of autonomy according to the CLTC cycle.

The second version, 100% electric, is also on the program. It will use three electric motors for a total power of 965 horsepower! We are thus approaching the power level of an Audi RS e-tron GT Performance, a Porsche Taycan Turbo GT or even a Tesla Model S Plaid!

But the price would only be a fraction of those of the models mentioned. In China, the Denza N9 would start at around the equivalent of 50,000 euros. A trifle for such a car. Denza plans to launch vehicles in Europe; if the N9 is part of the lot, its price on the Old Continent will be much higher. We can count on around 100,000 euros.
